Obligatory introduction
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:54:37 AM »
In the apparent absence of a topic for posting introductions, I have taken it upon myself to push a less useful topic onto page 2 of General Discussion so that you may all be blessed with the knowledge of my existence.

Things you should know about me:

I don't go out of my way to impress people. If you don't like me for who I am, then you probably aren't worth my time to impress. Most people don't seem to like me, although there are not many people who I can honestly say that I dislike. I have been known to troll people I have an extreme distaste for to an unnecessary degree, but generally speaking I try to go by the philosophy of "live and let live".

I am making this post using Firefox 3, running on Ubuntu 8.04, although I am considering switching to another GNU/Linux distribution - probably Debian or Gentoo. This is important because I am very supportive of free software, while I loathe corporations like Apple and Microsoft that charge ridiculous prices for their proprietary software, and I like to make this known at every possible opportunity. I reserve my deepest hate for iPods.

I am an audiophile. I listen to music in FLAC where possible (and in Ogg Vorbis where I do not have access to a lossless copy of the music), and sometimes even download several copies of the same album to try to find the best-sounding one. I prefer listening to high quality FLAC recorded from vinyl, and hope to get an audiophile quality turntable of my own at some point. While we're on the subject of music, my favourite band is Pink Floyd, and I also enjoy listening to artists/bands such as Frank Zappa, Van Der Graaf Generator, The Who, The Beatles and Deep Purple. I detest The Doors.

I play keyboard (and also guitar, bass and drums, though less proficiently) and write music. I haven't recorded anything of value in a good while, but I might just post a link to whatever I end up recording next on here somewhere, if you guys are lucky.

"Robosteve" is a nickname I acquired at another message board, from which I have recently been banned. I can't say I'm in love with the name, but it's a lot better than anything I ever came up with on my own, so I use it anyway.

Pertaining to the purpose of this message board, I would have to say that I consider the Earth to be round, not that its shape makes any difference whatsoever in my everyday life. I've been reading through some threads here, and many of you seem to be sophisticated, intelligent individuals; that is why I joined. I was linked to this site originally by the member known as "Androkles", though I don't think he has very many posts.

That is all. If this post is in any way incoherent, blame fatigue.

You were just looking in the wrong place.  I don't blame you, though.  I doubt I would have taken the time to find it.

You don't seem like an asshole or an idiot. Welcome!

Yea, I noticed that a while ago, too.  Don't know why the thread was sticky'd in EE.  But who cares, you're on topic, so you can't go wrong.  Not that people are ever really on topic around here in the first place...

This op was immediately followed with spamming the number thread and pm'ing muffz.
