"Hot light", "cold light
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:13:39 PM »
Ok let's say for now that the earth is flat. let's also say that the "Spotlights" of hot and cold light also exist. the light and dark over the earth would look like there were two spots of light and a lot of empty space. like there were two circles over a larger circle. explain this.

also I'm fed up with the answers from FEers saying things like, "Prove it's not." not all evidence is faked. I could say all the evidence supporting a flat earth is faked to according to the usual FE logic

also if you could explain the horizon. I live in san francisco so how come I can't see Hawii when looking over the pacific. I can't see japan either

First post and you're fed up already?  Must be an alt, then.

Feel free to, but it's all backed up by easily repeatable experiments and personal observations, so it wouldn't work.

We have a dense atmosphere.

Flat earthers have done plenty of research to prove the earth is flat, however, since we can't make this our career, resources are tight. Round earthers, however, have fewer proofs and therefore they ought try to prove their own theory. The general statement of the Flat Earth Society is  "To carefully observe, think freely, rediscover forgotten fact, and oppose theoretical dogmatic assumptions." We believe everyone should follow these guidlines. Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear, make your own observations.

We have a dense atmosphere.
50% of the mass of the atmosphere is in the lower 3.48 miles of the troposphere. The distance to any point on the ocean at the horizon from a telescope at a height of 5 feet 6 inches is 3.16 miles, shown by the formula (1.17√a)+(1.17√b) [where a is your height and b is the height of the object (0 in this case of a point), in feet). A telescope can see just fine through the 22.7 vertical miles of atmosphere, which is equivalent to clearly seeing 6.96 miles through the troposphere. That means that not only does distance visibility through a telescope vary with height (not explained in FET), but that the horizon cut-off point can be closer than the minimum atmospheric thickness required to obscure objects, so your explanation doesn't work.
the earth is flat, hence we can see distant lighthouses, hence the earth is flat

First off, I like how you did the thing I'm fed up with (Prove it.). People like you are giving FEers a bad rep.

2nd, You said prove that all evidence isn't faked then go on to say that the evidence supporting a FE isn't faked (it's all backed up by easily repeatable experiments and personal observations) thus proving not all evidence is faked according to you. if all evidence was faked, nothing would be true

3rd, I would like to congratulate Tom Bishop for actually answering my question. I apreciate the answer but for now I will remain a round earther until that has been proven further wrong. Please continue to post here
