I've tried to explain this before, but I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. If the RE conspiracy was orchestrated by the American government to frighten its enemies, then they could easily get rid of this site and kill the people who made it, all without raising an alarm. They have done it before. Example:
After 9/11, the government immediately took down all websites they felt were "unpatriotic", for instance, Whitehouse.org. Few people noticed because Bush manipulated 9/11 to serve his interests: "Blindly supporting me is patriotic". Everyone had been shocked into worshipping Bush, so only a few people noticed he was determined to crush dissent.
We have something similar with this site. Very few people have heard of the FES, let alone become members. The government, if they felt exposing the conspiracy violated national security, would have the CIA or the NSA easily take care of us. They could take down the website with all their hacking equipment, and then kill the top few mods or admins to make sure it would never emerge again. Most of us probably don't know each other in real life, there's no way we'd know without this site if a member was killed.
Afterwards, only the regulars (let's face it: there aren't very many of us) would notice the site is gone. With the possible exception of Tom Bishop, it wouldn't be that much of a big deal in our lives. And almost no one would believe it was the government because almost no one believes in the conspiracy.
I will admit, if, as most FEers claim, the conspiracy is not the work of the intelligence community, but rather a few greedy people at the top of NASA, then they could not shut down this website and my argument is defeated. Contrary to what you see in movies or on TV, having a high rank in the government does not give you access to assassins or Special Ops. However, I am certain I have showed you that this conspiracy, if it exists, is not the work of the American government.
