TempleOS

TempleOS is a fairly basic operating system, similar to DOS in many ways. It's free, and open-source. It was also developed by a paranoid schizophrenic who believes that God lives in this OS - that it is quite literally his temple. After watching the narrated demonstration videos and reading a lot of his comments, I've come to believe that the creator isn't faking his insanity. Insanity and software development make for a pretty interesting mixture.

Also, it was called "Hoppy" at one point during development.

I'm not sure what to think. It's intriguing and slightly scary at the same time.

Meh.
It's an updated DOS. If it works and its what you want, who cares why it exists or who made it?

The core features are like that of an updated DOS, but the extraneous features are much more interesting. The included games, for example. The hymn maker is particularly unnerving. A lot of his programs utilize random sentence generation, which he believes to be a medium through which God can communicate. I've always been curious about the literary and visual expressions of radically deviant minds, but I'd never thought to seek out software born from insanity. Wouldn't you like to read a novel about a deity who lives in an obscure operating system, built and maintained by a lonely schizophrenic?

I can't say I would.

How is this better than Linux, or any other main stream OS?

How is this better than Linux

It's not.

or any other main stream OS?

By virtue of the fact that the majority of operating systems are better than Windows.

TempleOS is not Windows based.

It's not Linux-based either, but that didn't prevent you from asking for a comparison between them.

I did not ask for a comparison.  In fact, you are the one who brought up Windows.

You asked:

That is, you asked for a comparison between TempleOS and "any other main stream [sic] OS". Windows is a mainstream OS.

I fail to see where Windows came into the conversation prior to you injecting it there.

I am not disputing that I brought up Windows. However, I did so in response to your open-ended question about mainstream operating systems, making it relevant to your post.

So, now, any OS is relevant when we are specifically speaking about a DOS based OS?

I brought up Linux in a question and that means that you can do you Jew hating.  Way to go.

It isn't supposed to be. It's just made for enthusiasts to tinker with.

I had to edit out a certain word for obvious reasons, but here's a good example of what the system's author has to say about his creation:

I hope this answers your question as to why TempleOS is better than Linux.
