Do you think it may be possible to put subliminal messages on websites?

Hi,

I've just joined this very interesting site, I live in England in the Home Counties and as you've probably guessed my name is not BGT !!

Hello to you all, its raining here today, by the way,

May I ask you in light of your knowledge and experience given the power, and the range of the internet;

whether perhaps...it might occur to some, come to think about it,...minds far more powerful than ours....ie like boffins running Kray computers
could they be running research programmes at this very moment to see whether it is possible to tinker with websites to influence various forms of 'mind' control over others...?

ps hang on whats that knock on the door !!..

seriously surely this might make sense?, if PCs are starting to resemble TVs, apart from the obvious direct ways of trying to brainwash us, and less obvious ie TV has the same waves as sleep, I feel more awake once I have switched off...

could there be programmes being developed at this very moment to discover if various forms of subliminal and potentially even more powerful and insidious new forms of 'image', waves etc be put on websites, perhaps without people running sites even being aware of it...in order to influence people who are looking at the websites?

or is it risky asking this sort of question.....? !

what has prompted this was that last night in the UK, there was a discussion on a blog underway where people independent of each other posted messages with a rabbit theme, it seems strange, probably a coincidence but it got me thinking into the wee hours last night....

I would be very interested to know what you think?

best wishes

Personally, I think that green text is harder to read and makes it less likely that anyone will take you seriously.

Hi again,

sorry about that, I was attempting to be a little ironical as people suggesting anything a little out of the ordinary are often described as 'green inkers'. I do take your point that it might be harder to read, so have re-posted it in normal text,

thanks again for your comment

Personally I doubt it. If you're asking whether it's possible... well, anything's possible. Even a spherical Earth. Anyway, this is more 'Alternative Science', so I've moved it to that board accordingly. Also, welcome!

You don't need subliminal messaging when everyone is already addicted to the internet.

Yeah, definitely. I once read that if a person passes an ad for something, even if they don't consciously notice it, that person will be more likely to purchase that product if they see it on the shelf when shopping.
If you say that the earth is flat, you are destroying centuries of evolution.

Green text comes off as slightly friendly, we associate it with money, therefore we associate the poster with someone that is rich and therefore more worthy to listen to.

Purple is associated with power. Light blue makes us happy, red we associate with speed (look at speeding tickets/color graphs to see what i mean) etc.

Why would we associate green with money, and why would someone being rich make them any more worthy to listen to?

red we associate with speed (look at speeding tickets/color graphs to see what i mean)

And traffic lights. Oh wait...

As for traffic lights, red is a very noticeable color. It doesn't matter if we perceive the stop lights speed as greater than it actually is, we still see it and stop.

From your link:
Quote from: Wikipedia
Green symbolizes [sic] ... money (US) ...

So when you said "we", you were referring only to a small subset of those people who would read your post. You should have specified this. Also, you didn't explain why somebody being rich would make them more worthy to listen to.

As for traffic lights, red is a very noticeable color. It doesn't matter if we perceive the stop lights speed as greater than it actually is, we still see it and stop.

My point was that most people, including myself, associate red more with stopping than with moving.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

a) you skipped where it said wealth right before it said money. Good troll, now stop being a fuck.

b) I don't care what you consciously associate it with. You will perceive a red object as going faster than a non red object in most cases.

Okay. Even granting you that, why is a wealthy person any more worthy to listen to than anybody else?

b) I don't care what you consciously associate it with. You will perceive a red object as going faster than a non red object in most cases.

The red icon for Ardour on my panel doesn't seem to be moving any faster than the blue one for Aqualung right beside it.

I'm sorry that you can't percieve their differences in velocity. Throw your monitor at the wall and the increase in velocity may make it more noticeable.

As for why you would listen to a wealthy person, the same reason you listen more closely to a man in a suit than a hobo.

I don't think I will be able to resolve the icons while my monitor is flying through the air.

As for why you would listen to a wealthy person, the same reason you listen more closely to a man in a suit than a hobo.

I don't, though. Men in suits are bureaucratic slaves to society and I want as little to do with them as possible.
