Humanity at it's finest
« on: April 07, 2009, 09:52:52 PM »
Hey, unfortunately I came across this video http://www.peta.org/feat/ChineseFurFarms/index.asp , this may be hard to watch.

It makes me sad that people can do this to another creature with no thought of the pain they are causing, and just because an animal cant say "holy fuck that hurts" doesn't mean it feels no pain. It's sadistic disgusting and disturbing.

If you have a weak stomach, I'm sorry.

That's pretty nasty.

Keep in mind, though, that humans have done and will undoubtedly do worse to their own kind.

*sigh*  I never cease to be amazed at the cruelty of human beings.  It's truly disturbing.  As for how people justify it, Descartes claimed that all nonhuman animals were soulless.  When people beat dogs to death and vivisected them he claimed that they were like clocks and their cries were "the noise of a little spring that had been touched, but that the whole body was without feeling."  I'm guessing that's the kind of thinking that leads to this.  Either that or the people are really, really sick sacks of shit.  Hell, either way they are.

... the thing that really really bugs me here is that, the guy has a fucking knife in his hand, yet he just hits the animal over the head with the blunt end to daze it and make it move less, put the fucking thing out of its misery, could you imagine someone doing that to you? fuck... the pain would be unimaginable.

"On these farms, foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals pace and shiver in outdoor wire cages, exposed to driving rain, freezing nights, and, at other times, scorching sun. Mother animals, who are driven crazy from rough handling and intense confinement and have nowhere to hide while giving birth, often kill their babies after delivering litters. Disease and injuries are widespread, and animals suffering from anxiety-induced psychosis chew on their own limbs and throw themselves repeatedly against the cage bars."

This is a lie.

All those things would destroy the pelt, thus rendering the process uneconomical. This is all just exaggerated propaganda, I don't buy it.

The sarcastic comment "humanity at it's finest" is pretty funny when you think about it since you posted a video made by PETA. Worthless excuses for human beings.

The point isn't who made the site but what those in the video are doing.

If members of peta are considered to be "worthless excuses for human beings" for what they are trying to prevent here I would gladly consider myself a worthless excuse for a human being (for having compassion towards less intellectual creatures, although I'm not a part of PETA nor do i want to be).

The section I quoted is in their little blurb about the video. I wouldn't trust their footage because there is a good chance it's fake. They make a shit ton of money praying on peoples emotions, and faking a video isn't out of their means.

I'm not saying the footage isn't real, I'm saying he entire set up is fake. PETA people throw some animals in cages, torture them, then sell it off as real. They then collect a healthy profit in donations.

Oh, I don't have any problem with opposing violent slaughter or stuff like that, but trying to convince people that it's a standard practice in the industry is not only wrong, but stupid as well. Also, PETA are just a bunch of hypocrites who are more into politics than animal rights. I dislike PETA for what they are and do, but that doesn't mean I approve of whatever is going on in the video. In any case, don't swallow their bullshit and assume that this is anything other than an isolated event. the meat industry and fur industry do, despite what people usually believe because of videos like this, treat animals fairly good. Of course they kill the animals, but they don't do it in any painful or drawn out manner. Most often slaughterhouses use methods that render the animals brain dead in seconds, so as to minimize any suffering. The same is true for fur farms.

i'm not sure you know what goes on in 'slaughter houses'... but it would be nice to know that the burger your eating wasn't from a cow that was hung by its hind legs while a guy walks along a line and slits their throats allowing them to bleed to death, but unfortunately it's quick cheap and easy for the supplier to do.

edit: I also do not support PETA due to their belief on euthanasia ("putting a stray to 'sleep' is better than letting it wander around")

You know, most meat that I eat is almost exclusively Swedish. And really, in such a politically correct climate as Sweden, you just can't afford something like that in a slaughterhouse. The animals are killed in a humane fashion, unless the burger you eat is from some eastern european or asian country, and if it is, you should probably worry more about possible diseases than the welfare of the animal. I can live with being partly responsible for the suffering of one cow, but I probably can't live through bovine encephalitis.

Most situations in slaughter houses its one shot from a .22 point blank to the head. It dispatches the animal rather painlessly and expediently (If I had to go, I'd trust it). If not that then its electrocution. The only time I have ever heard of throats being slit is for kosher food, and that is done in an extremely practiced and humane manner (the reason for this was back in the old days this was the most humane way to kill something).

Wendy: I agree 100%, most of what they show are exaggerations to garner an emotional response. Mainly to separate you from your money. The truth is that most environmental organizations do the same, if not worse. Also didn't Sweden have a few cases of mad cow?

I also saw one other method of killing the animal, where you have a spring loaded mechanism that drives a pointed steel rod into the skull. I'd probably not go with that, but that's because I want to leave a pretty corpse. ;D

do you have any idea how much a .22 bullet to every animal would cost? this is NOT economical for the company. as for electrocution... i dont think that feels very good. i know of a few places in the city i live that use an air gun that shoots a bolt out and punctures the animals brain (this is ok, quick and painless) but its not like thats how it is all over north america http://www.meetyourmeat.com/

I know for a fact they use .22's, I've seen it with my own two eyes. BTW, One .22 round costs about a $0.02, even less in bulk. Two cents per cow isn't outrageous.

so then we must assume every supplier would be as humane as those you've seen....? the fur thing goes both ways, i understand it is not the most common practice but it's not uncommon to find.

they test it on their eyes. Before PETA some common practices where to sew the animals eyelids up and spray the stuff into a box with them. Then see how the eyes were affected. Grated PETA went off the deep end but earlier they had a lot of valid points .

Potentially. That's what they're testing to see.
